Types

The sound qualities of the Thin Lacquer Finish, and of the Roasted Bamboo with Thin Laquer Finish are very similar, so choose based on your aesthetic preference.
Thick Lacquer Finish, has a harder/sharper sound than the Thin Lacquer Finish but is more crack resistant. Please note however, there is always a chance for cracking in some environments.

Binding

Differences between Top & Bottom Bound and Fully Bound: Fully Bound is to protect against cracking and has a slightly harder/sharper sound. Please note there is always a chance for cracking in certain environments.

Differences between Rattan and Cherry Tree Bark: The strength and sound quality are similar; however, cherry tree bark is a very rare material.

Color

Sound qualities of different colors:
Black and Brown colored shinobues have a harder/sharper sound than other colors because no pigments are used.

Design

Choose from below

Body Size

Thin body: Easier to play high notes and longer phrases.
Thick body: Requires more breath support, but you can get richer low notes.

Embouchure

Smaller: Easier to get a rich and clear high notes. You can play long phrases, and play pianissimo.
Bigger: Requires more air, but has more volume and a greater dynamic range.

Hole Size

Smaller: Easier to play long phrases and faster articulation.
Bigger: Gives a bigger sound. It requires more experience and skill to play faster phrases and more breath support than smaller holes.

Right Pinky

You can make it easier to close the pinky hole by making it smaller and placing it closer to the ring finger hole, but the notes Ryo-1 and Kan-1 will be lower volume.

Enhancement

By applying a gold or platinum enhancement on the embouchure hole, you can create a clear sound with metallic overtones in the high register.
Gold and Platinum have the same sound quality, so please select according to your aesthetic preference.
